Art Exhibition Benefits ArtReach
A portion of sales from this June 2007 exhibition were donated to The ArtReach Foundation.
Words from the Artist, Elyse Defoor: My recent series, which is the first listing, is entitled X.U.ME. I began it two days after seeing the destruction in the Ninth Ward six months after Katrina. The series "Talking Back" was created in response to the murder of my brother Gordon C. Bynum, Jr. in June 1999.
I am excited that my art will help support ArtReach as a way of giving back. Since my art is primarily created from an emotional response to the world around me, I welcome the idea of helping traumatized children heal themselves in the expression of art.
In addition to benefitting the foundation, the Atelier Opening will be made even more poignant by the reading of the poem "Skateboarding from Sarajevo" by Jerry Cullum. He will have dvds for sale as well.
